February is often remembered as just being the month of Valentine’s Day, but there are other days to remember too, much less commercialized and superficial days. Did you know its Heart Month? How about Teen Dating Violence Awareness Month?
Here are some important days you may have forgotten in February:
- Feb. 4th World Cancer Day – Help raise awareness. Visit the website wordcancerday.org to donate and find out how you can get involved! #WorldCancerDay
- Feb 5th National Wear Red Day – Help raise awareness for the leading causes of death in women, heart disease and strokes. Wear something red to show your support! Donate and get more information at : http://honor.americanheart.org/site/TR?fr_id=5042&pg=entrycd
- Feb 7 – 14 Congenital Heart Defect Awareness Week – Help raise awareness for congenital heart defects and donate/encourage others to donate. Raising awareness and donations can help save the lives of those born with heart defects.
- Feb13-17 Love of Reading week – Encourage kids to read and create of love of reading in children. Last year my English class celebrated by going to an elementary school to read to the kids. Set aside time to read to your children, nieces, nephews, students, etc. and encourage a love of reading in them. The Daycare I work at is celebrating by helping the kids illustrate a book with all of their names in it!
No Valentine for Valentine’s Day? No worries, there are plenty of other events that need your attention more and these are just a few. Get involved and help raise awareness.
